Liatris ‘Kobold’ is one of the most recognizable, tried and true native plants. With fluffy spikes in deep purple it is a must have in the perennial border. Also known as blazing star, Liatris spicata is a tall, upright, herbaceous perennial, native to moist low grounds, meadows and marsh margins. ‘Floristan Kobold’ does well in heat and humidity, blooming in the middle of the summer. Plants blooms with vertical spikes 6-12 inch long of rounded, fluffy of feathery flower heads where it gets its other common name- gayfeather. Liatris prefers moist but well-drained soils and full sun. Keep away from wet soils in winter. Use in perennial borders, or as a native plant in butterfly and cottage gardens.
